Monica Lennon
MSP for Central Scotland
Monica is a Scottish Labour MSP for the Central Scotland Region and Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport in the Scottish Parliament.
She is also co-founder of the Scottish Labour Women’s Movement and was a Councillor for Hamilton North and East Ward before being elected as an MSP in 2016.
She is a long-time community activist, trade unionist and an active campaigner. She was on the front line of the successful campaign against the Whitehill Incinerator and her current campaigns include ending period poverty and better support for those affected by alcohol-harm.
Monica’s Member’s Bill to end period poverty will be making its way through parliament this year.
She is a Chartered Town Planner and is using her planning experience to champion the voices of communities in her work on the Planning (Scotland) Bill.
She is Convener of the Parliament’s Cross Party Groups on Women’s Health; Drug and Alcohol Misuse; and Construction.
She is the winner of the ‘One to Watch’ and ‘New MSP of the Year’ awards 2017/18.
