Ged Killen, MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, said: “This is a baffling move from First Bus.
“The X1 is a busy and well-used service relied upon by many Hamilton residents to get back and forth to university, college and work in the city centre.
“I have been contacted by constituents concerned at the move, as for some this is their only feasible way of getting from Hamilton into Glasgow.
“At a time when thousands across the country are protesting to demand action on climate change, the role that public transport plays in addressing environmental concerns grows ever more crucial.
“On Friday, I spoke with students at the University of the West of Scotland’s Hamilton campus, and made it clear that I would be challenging cuts to public transport links.
“I’ve written to First Bus requesting an urgent meeting and I will be raising the points constituents have contacted me with.”
