Ged Killen, MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, said: “A General Election is inevitable and necessary to get rid of Boris Johnson and his right wing government – but Johnson cannot be trusted to keep his word and Labour will not walk into a trap that would allow him to crash us out of the European Union without a deal on October 31.

“When the immediate threat of no deal has been removed, Labour will vote for an election.

“We will campaign to end austerity, invest in public services, introduce a £10 minimum wage, and to offer the public the final say on Brexit.

“The fairest way to bring Brexit to an end once and for all is to put any deal agreed with the EU back to the people to decide in a confirmatory referendum whether they still want to leave under the terms negotiated, or if they would prefer to remain.

“A vote for the Tories risks a No Deal Brexit and would leave us stuck with Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.

“The SNP want to capitalise on the current chaos and division and would launch us into years of more chaos and division with another independence referendum. Only Labour offers a sensible and stable way forward.”
