This week I condemned the  callous Tory Government for its disastrous rollout of Universal Credit saying people are being forced to rely on foodbanks due to the implementation of the broken system.

In the Opposistion Day Debate I cited evidence from Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank showing a 50% year-on-year increase in demand for emergency food parcels, with the past four months showing a further 22% increase when compared to the previous year.

I also hit out at Minister’s failure to understand the universal credits inability to handle basic payroll systems after it was revealed that South Lanarkshire Council had warned employees who claim Universal Credit that they could lose their entitlement over Christmas because they will be paid their salary twice in November due to the four-weekly payroll system used by the council.
