This month 2 Sisters Food Group announced they were consulting on a plant to close their plant in Cambuslang.

The 2 Sisters Plant has been in Cambuslang for more than 5 decades. It has provided secure employment and opportunities for thousands of people in the area and has seen generations of some families work there. It is a lynch-pin of the local economy in Cambuslang and across South Lanarkshire.

Although I am concerned for the future of the plant, I am encouraged that the owners are open to proposals that would keep the site open. I met with management at the site on the 15th of February and they made it clear that the future of the site was not sealed.

Today I wrote to the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Economy Jobs and Fair Work, Keith Brown MSP, asking him to establish a Taskforce to look into options which would keep the plant open, keep these 450 jobs in Cambuslang and keep this site as a source of employment for years to come.
